The Man in the Iron Mask (1939)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 110m
Director: James Whale
Cast: Louis Hayward, Warren William, Alan Hale, Joan Bennett

Synopsis:

Louis XIV's twin brother, unbeknown to him, has been raised by his foster father, D'Artagnan, but when he finds out he has him imprisoned with an iron mask so no one will see the likeness.

Review:

Serviceable adaptation of the final four musketeers novel, released through United Artists. There is little of the wit of Whale's work for Universal here, and the film desperately needs a performer with the energy of Fairbanks, whose silent version was the direct antecedent to this one.
