The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979)

£0.00

(Die Ehe der Maria Braun)

Country: GER
Technical: col 119m
Director: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Cast: Hanna Schygulla, Klaus Löwitsch

Synopsis:

Maria marries Hermann in the last days of WW2, but he goes missing. Alone in Allied occupied Berlin, she must use her beauty and wits in order to survive.

Review:

Like other Fassbinder films, this is like a Douglas Sirk for the seamier side. The first in an unofficial 'camiknicker trilogy', it has a fashionably downbeat ending.
