The Murders of Oiso (2019)

£0.00

(Aru satsujin, rakuyō no koro ni)

Country: JAP/HK/KOR
Technical: col/2.35:1 79m
Director: Takuya Misawa
Cast: Koji Moriya, Haya Nakasaki, Yûsaku Mori, Shûgo Nagashima

Synopsis:

A funerary book of condolences is used as confessional for the misdeeds of a group of four school friends who have since grown indolent and disaffected working for the boss of one of their fathers, drinking and gambling, and taking part in illegal construction practices.

Review:

One might be forgiven for asking, 'What murders?', after viewing this tangled narrative in which the only deaths are those of the construction boss who falls on his lawn mower, and the grandmother of the gang leader, who wanders off in the night. Other clues to malign acts are sprinkled around, but the storytelling is so fragmented and confused that it raises far more questions than it answers. The ominous electric guitar soundtrack and pusillanimous characters are further irritations.
