Night of the Demon (1957)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 87m
Director: Jacques Tourneur
Cast: Dana Andrews, Peggy Cummins, Niall MacGinnis, Athene Seyler

Synopsis:

A sceptical professor is the recipient of a piece of parchment from a diabolist who means to bring down on him the curse of the demon.

Review:

Based on the M. R. James story "Casting the Runes", Tourneur's at times woodenly acted and over-literal version creaks at the seams a little even at this brisk length, though it is refreshing to see a monster 'revealed' with such lip-smacking relish as this. MacGinnis is unforgettable as the urbane, beguilingly spoken villain, who by his petard is most decidedly hoist, and this remains an effective thriller with a number of classic scenes.
