Nouvelle Vague (2025)

£0.00

Country: FR/US
Technical: bw 106m
Director: Richard Linklater
Cast: Guillaume Marbeck, Zoey Deutch, Aubry Dullin, Bruno Dreyfürst

Synopsis:

The most intellectual of the Cahiers critics is to be last to make his first feature, and it will be a film without scenario, a film about the creative and mechanical process of making a film.

Review:

Linklater successfully makes Godard fun, arguably for the first and only time, though he perhaps includes too many nerdily exhaustive head shots of everyone involved in the French New Wave. One senses that Suzanne Schiffman's appearance alongside Chabrol, Truffaut and Godard was somewhat tokenistic, but never mind. Every Godardian mannerism is given ample send-up room by other members of the crew, and Miss Seberg's slow-to-come-round skepticism about the whole enterprise is touchingly caught, given what transpired later.
