Anyone acquainted with the series Spiral (Engrenages) will be familiar with the setup; Moll's major gambit is to reveal the 'non-lieu' from the start. Thus we are bound to focus on the characters, procedures and, more widely, the phenomenon of violence towards women which appears endemic in our culture. The sexual behaviours of young people today are also adumbrated by this bleak film, which may just overplay its hand lengthwise.
