The Night Visitor (1971)

£0.00

Country: SV/US
Technical: col 106m
Director: Laslo Benedek
Cast: Max von Sydow, Trevor Howard, Liv Ullmann, Per Oscarsson

Synopsis:

A man in his underwear creeps through the snowbound landscape and into a farmhouse where a heated family discussion is taking place. Before the night is out, more than one victim will lie dead in their bed.

Review:

An intriguing story set in an undetermined time and place has police inspector Howard investigating a seemingly intractable conundrum: how an asylum patient could possibly escape and return to his cell in order to commit the murders. Unfortunately the script does not really pass muster and performances from the majority of the cast are wooden in consequence. Benedek meanwhile directs with a sure hand and the unity of action at least guarantees audience attention.
