Ordet (1954)

£0.00

(The Word)

Country: DK
Technical: bw 126m
Director: Carl Dreyer
Cast: Henrik Malberg, Emil Hass Christensen

Synopsis:

A Danish farmer's Lutheranism and a tailor's fundamentalist mindset clash over the proposed marriage of their respective offspring, but the complications encountered by the farmer's agnostic and pregnant wife prompt a reappraisal on all sides of what constitutes the true word of God.

Review:

A simple but moving rural drama, with many truths to speak about faith and sectarianism, while remaining palatable to agnostics and believers alike. As before, Dreyer manages to convey humanity through a starkly formal aesthetic.
