Otello (1986)

£0.00

Country: IT/US
Technical: col 120m
Director: Franco Zeffirelli
Cast: Placido Domingo, Katia Ricciarelli, Justino Diaz

Synopsis:

Celebrating his victory over the Turks on behalf of the Venetians, a Moorish general allows himself to be inveigled by his lieutenant into believing that his beloved wife is guilty of adultery.

Review:

An attempt to repeat the success of his La Traviata, this offers stunning décor and equally excellent casting while full of neat touches guaranteed to annoy purists. The fact that it is slightly less satisfying as filmed musical drama is partly due no doubt to its less novelettish plot, partly to the somewhat turgid mise en scène.
