The Outlaw (1943)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 126m
Director: Howard Hughes
Cast: Jack Buetel, Jane Russell, Thomas Mitchell, Walter Huston

Synopsis:

Doc Holliday and Pat Garrett fall out over Billy the Kid, whom the Doc hides out at his homestead when he is injured, allowing his girlfriend Rio to tend his wounds, even when she falls for him. An Indian attack follows.

Review:

Hughes's labour of love (if you can call it that) is a narrative mess, as can be surmised, and the furore over Miss Russell's cleavage can be isolated to one shot as she leans over the Kid's bedside. The script is ghastly, everyone looks uncomfortable, it's far too long and took over three years to get a proper release, by which time everyone had forgotten what the fuss was about. Still, you kind of have to see it, so go ahead.
