Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: Technicolor 122m
Director: Albert Lewin
Cast: James Mason, Ava Gardner, Nigel Patrick, Sheila SIm

Synopsis:

In the 1930s, a highly desired Spanish girl falls in love with a mysterious sea captain, who turns out to be the legendary Flying Dutchman, condemned to roam the seas unless he can find a woman to die for him...

Review:

An extraordinary artistic folly, which fails even on its own terms: the whole point of the legend here, that of re-enactment, a chance of redemption through a repetition of events, contradicts the oft-quoted lines from the Rubaiyat. Good-looking and fun in a way, but dated on its release and overlong.
