Panic in Year Zero! (1962)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw/2.35:1 93m
Director: Ray Milland
Cast: Ray Milland, Jean Hagen, Frankie Avalon

Synopsis:

A family's plans to take their trailer fishing for the weekend are interrupted by a pre-emptive nuclear strike on Los Angeles and other American cities. The paterfamilias must quickly learn to be as ruthless as he assumes everyone else to be, but at what cost?

Review:

After quite a bit of TV work, Milland got to direct this post-apocalypse thriller for Arkoff at American International. After an opening half hour on the highway, it pretty much turns into a western by another name, any drama stemming from fellow humans rather than nuclear fallout. That said, it zips along, is well acted by Hagen and Milland, and does not pull its punches regarding the consequences of the fortress mentality adopted by the 'homesteader'.
