Phase IV (1974)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: col 84m
Director: Saul Bass
Cast: Nigel Davenport, Lynne Frederick, Michael Murphy

Synopsis:

Scientists in the desert rescue a girl from attacking ants, and must figure out how to counter the threat from a species which has begun to use its collaborative intelligence to turn on humans.

Review:

Bass, a creator of countless distinguished title sequences, made this one feature film, a unique curio with an atmosphere all its own. It isn't any great shakes as storytelling goes, and is inevitably limited budget-wise in turning harmless little ants into threatening creatures, but, like The Andromeda Strain, it shows human intelligence up against it without insulting the audience's.
