The Peacemaker (1997)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 124m
Director: Mimi Leder
Cast: George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Marcel Iures

Synopsis:

As the Soviet Union implodes a maniacal army officer hijacks and attempts to export a trainload of nuclear warheads. In particular he has the interest of a pair of Bosnian brothers who bear a grudge against the West and plan to let one off in Manhattan.

Review:

Fast-moving and extremely violent (the opening minutes alone feature an atomic explosion in the Urals) cold war-ish thriller, with action man Clooney dealing out justice and Kidman looking on in anguished wonderment. Maligned on its release for the absence of star chemistry, the film in fact has little truck with developing romantic interest and instead concentrates on being an efficient Bond movie-in-all-but-name without the sexual trimmings.
