The Proud Valley (1939)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 76m
Director: Pen Tennyson
Cast: Paul Robeson, Edward Chapman, Edward Rigby

Synopsis:

An American negro with a powerful singing voice goes to work in a Welsh coalmine, taking part in a march on London.

Review:

What passed for politically engaged cinema in the 1930s, especially with war looming. Of course such a negro's presence in Wales is unlikely at that time, but Robeson was lending his voice (literally) to a worthy cause, in his mind.
