A Real Pain (2024)

£0.00

Country: US/POL
Technical: col 90m
Director: Jesse Eisenberg
Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Kieran Culkin, Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey

Synopsis:

On-the-spectrum cousins, one tightly wound and inhibited, the other extroverted but given to mood swings, confront their grandma's dying wishes by taking a Jewish cultural trip to Poland. As Benji's unpredictability threatens to destabilise the group, the anxious but self-controlled David is haunted by memories of his cousin's suicide attempt.

Review:

Ruefully sentimental (in a good sense) road movie, which is brave enough to end with an anti-climactic double pilgrimage, one to the camps, the other to the grandma's childhood home, as if all the important stuff has gone before. Which is a truism of the genre, of course.
