Rambo (2008)

£0.00

Country: GER/US
Technical: col/2.35:1 92m
Director: Sylvester Stallone
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Matthew Marsden, Graham McTavish

Synopsis:

Rambo, now living in Thailand, reluctantly agrees to guide a group of Christian aid workers into Burma to help the oppressed Karen villagers there.

Review:

Essentially this is a clash of attitudes opposing Rambo's 'It won't make any difference' and Sarah's 'I can't do nothing'; the outcome is shrouded in a hail of 50mm gunfire after inevitably everything goes pear-shaped. Dramatically it is a straightforward insertion and retrieval narrative, with a well-timed intervention by rebel/cavalry at the end. Politically it may help to raise awareness of a little reported area of repression ten years prior to the Rohingya atrocities, but let's not kid ourselves; we all know why we are here, and the film amps up contempt for the government before unleashing apocalyptic vengeance. Fortunately for the population, Rambo returns home to Arizona in the closing minutes.
