Synopsis:
John Rambo lives in bucolic tranquility with his live-in Mexican help and her granddaughter, whose father he has more or less replaced. It cannot last, however, and sure enough trouble comes in the shape of an unreliable friend who claims to have found her true father across the border.
Review:
With a prologue establishing that he is on the right side of the cops this time, Sly makes his (presumably) final screen appearance as John Rambo back on home ground, hence the subtitle. After name-checking PTSD and signalling what it is that is to be taken from him this time, the film settles into familiar dynamics of unbelievably bad guys meeting unbelievably badass retribution. At least it is brisk, to the extent of an underwritten Paz Vega, and the finale seems genuinely heartfelt, even disquieting, given Trump-era politics.
