Romeo and Juliet (1968)

£0.00

Country: GB/IT
Technical: col/scope 138m
Director: Franco Zeffirelli
Cast: Leonard Whiting, Olivia Hussey, John McEnery, Michael York, Robert Stephens

Synopsis:

A boy and a girl from opposing sides of Verona's controlling family clans struggle to live according to their love rather than the hate by which they are surrounded.

Review:

Zeffirelli's vividly orchestrated, sun-drenched production, filmed in Siena, sensibly opts for unknowns to play star-crossed lovers of the right sort of age for a realistic medium. However, somewhere the poetry gets lost in the process, and Rota's theme tune will forever be associated with Simon Mayo's 11 am slot on Radio One.
