The Reader (2008)

£0.00

Country: US/GER
Technical: Technicolor 124m
Director: Stephen Daldry
Cast: Kate Winlset, Ralph Fiennes, David Kross, Lena Olin

Synopsis:

A withdrawn middle-aged man looks back over his relationship with an older woman who would ask him to read to her as a prelude to lovemaking, and whose trial for war crimes he later witnesses as a law student.

Review:

A two-hander which depends, like The Hours whose director and screenwriter it shares, on a number of telling details. Fiennes is rather wasted but Winslet is very fine, though one wonders why something like this is being shot in English these days.
