The Rains Came (1939)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 103m
Director: Clarence Brown
Cast: Myrna Loy, George Brent, Tyrone Power

Synopsis:

During the British Raj, the nubile daughter of an aristocrat is wooed by an old flame, but her heart burns for a handsome half-caste surgeon. And all the rains of Ranchipur cannot put out the fire!

Review:

Fox's second turn at the disaster movie stakes after In Old Chicago was this earthquake and dam burst drama, which has the lovers fighting to keep disease at bay in the aftermath. The special effects are great, using double exposure to time-honoured effect, and the film even fits neatly into the British Empire cycle of the 1930s.
