The Retreat for Very (Very, Very, Very) Sad People (2026)

£0.00

Country: ÖST
Technical: col/2.35:1 83m
Director: Janna Ramos-Violante
Cast: Kim Ceysens, Simon Manley, Larissa Mota, Caroline Richards, Tim Wells, Gregor Schulz

Synopsis:

Four individuals at the end of their respective tethers qualify for a place on an exclusive Alpine retreat. There they are coaxed into sharing their demons, and in so doing diminishing them, as their guru, a mute girl named Larissa, coaches them in activities that place them in harmony with the universe.

Review:

In fact we never do discover what ails them about their former lives, though we do get clues and a Willy Wonka character is on hand to nudge the tiller when necessary. The film, which was made under very straitened circumstances is extremely handsome to look at, with shallow focus opening up to panoramas of nature, but it is really an ensemble piece in which each player gets his/her chance to shine; a Triangle of Sadness without the catering, where pride and sloth take precedence over gluttony and lust.
