Salaam Bombay! (1988)

£0.00

Country: IND/FR/GB/US
Technical: col 109m
Director: Mira Nair
Cast: Shafiq Syed, Raghubir Yadav

Synopsis:

An account of the daily existence of a young lad in contemporary India, living on the streets of Bombay and mixing with petty criminals of the most sordid kind.

Review:

As with many of Nair's films, the imagery is over-aestheticized for the subject matter, but this is part of her optimism about human nature which perhaps colours everything she does. This early film has many admirable qualities and belongs with films such as Pixote as a great work about child poverty.
