Country: NOR/GER/DK/FR/SV/GB/TUR
Technical: col 133m
Director: Joachim Trier
Cast: Renata Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lillaas, Elle Fanning, Anders Danielsen Lie

Synopsis:

When their mother dies, two closely bonded sisters negotiate their frailties as their film director father returns to dispose of the house. He also wants to make a film there, loosely based on the family history, with his actress daughter starring.

Review:

We are back in the world of Bergman: iconic wooden house with a beating heart of its own, philandering father, damaged children, theatrical setting. True, this director is less text-based in his handling, more observational, and readier to engage in the kind of sleight of hand typified by the ending, which you see coming from about half way through. It is too long, but is filled with affecting moments and fine acting, and clearly sees artistic endeavour as a kind of therapy.
