Country: AUS
Technical: col 117m
Director: Noora Niasari
Cast: Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Osamah Sami, Leah Purcell, Selina
Synopsis:
A mother and daughter from Iran are in sheltered housing while a custody battle goes through the courts. However, when the sexually abusive husband is granted visiting rights, his controlling behaviour again comes to the fore.
Review:
Quiet, gentle film devoted to an Iranian woman's struggle for emancipation, and surely dedicated to separated mothers and babies everywhere. However, it does not inspire confidence in Australian family law, as the husband's infractions grow more and more excessive. At the same time, Ebrahimi's performance is immensely affecting (at the cost of demonising the husband slightly), and the final image is of a woman who, loose ends aside, can stand on her own at last.
