Silent Running (1972)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 90m
Director: Douglas Trumbull
Cast: Bruce Dern, Cliff Potts

Synopsis:

At a time in the future when all flora on Earth is extinct, a crew of astronauts are the custodians of giant biodomes attached to their spaceship. When they receive orders to destroy their charge and return home, only one does not rejoice.

Review:

This hard-to-swallow premise develops into one of the best-loved sci-fi films of the seventies, with Dern playing every hippie moviegoer's perfect cool dude, except that he is also homicidal. Principally of interest now for its relevance to the issue of dwindling biodiversity, and as an example of the director's effects work which perhaps informed Blade Runner.
