Sous les toits de Paris (1930)

£0.00

Country: FR
Technical: bw 96m
Director: René Clair
Cast: Albert Préjean, Pola Illéry, Gaston Modot, Edmond T. Gréville

Synopsis:

Three men in one of Paris's poor districts, a singer, a thief and a gangster, are in love with the same woman, a Romanian immigrant girl.

Review:

A change of pace for Clair, more poetic realism than his usual fantasy, this tale of lovers separated by mischance, wrongful imprisonment and the law of the street, is one of the early masterpieces of French sound cinema. Allowances have to made now, of course, but observe the use of sets and the craning camera shot over the roofs of Paris.
