State Secret (1950)

£0.00

(The Great Manhunt)

Country: GB
Technical: bw 104m
Director: Sidney Gilliat
Cast: Douglas Fairbanks Jnr, Glynis Johns, Herbert Lom, Jack Hawkins

Synopsis:

An American doctor in Europe after the war is diverted to an Eastern communist state to operate on the dictator there. He unfortunately succumbs and is promptly replaced with a double, but the American finds himself pursued by the secret police because he knows too much.

Review:

Wonderfully Hitchcockian romantic thriller, set in the fictional mittel-European state of Vosnia, Prisoner of Zenda-style, and with Fairbanks an agreeably light hero opposite Johns in the Madeleine Carroll role, as an English actress abroad.
