Stillwater (2021)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 139m
Director: Tom McCarthy
Cast: Matt Damon, Camille Cottin, Abigail Breslin, Anne Le Ny

Synopsis:

A construction worker from Oklahoma travels to Marseille, where his daughter is serving a prison sentence for murder. There he hopes to reverse the trial outcome through a new piece of evidence, and secures the help of an actress as interpreter.

Review:

The film will have you throwing things at the screen in frustration, and Damon's performance has to be his most stolid yet. Nevertheless, in a few brief scenes at the end it manages to redeem itself partially with some honest acknowledgement of how far from justice we have actually just been led. Even so, it is not enough when so much else has demonstrated how much damage one American 'fuck up' with zero language skills and scant understanding of the legal system can do.
