Street of Shame (1956)

£0.00

(Akasen Chitai)

Country: JAP
Technical: bw 85m
Director: Kenji Mizoguchi
Cast: Machiko Kyo, Ayako Wakao

Synopsis:

The lives and dreams of five prostitutes play out against a threatened ban on prostitution by the post-war Diet, Japan's bicameral legislature.

Review:

The master's last film is a melodramatic tale of prostitutes in a Tokyo whorehouse, full of gloomy incident and pessimism about human society. Not badly done, but oddly familiar and very forgettable.
