Sweet Bird of Youth (1962)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 120m
Director: Richard Brooks
Cast: Paul Newman, Geraldine Page, Ed Begley, Shirley Knight

Synopsis:

An embittered movie star, her beauty faded, travels with her gigolo to his home town, where he picks up with the girl whose father, a political boss, forced him to give up years ago.

Review:

Tarnished dreams, emasculating societal forces, all in a day's work for Tennessee Williams, whose play is given a decent, only slightly bowdlerized, showing by Brooks, one of the more intelligent Hollywood directors at the time. The characters do pall after a while, though.
