The Shop around the Corner (1940)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 97m
Director: Ernst Lubitsch
Cast: James Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, Frank Morgan

Synopsis:

Two employees of a Czechoslovakian clothing store harbour a barely concealed antipathy towards each other, while secretly sharing an anonymous love correspondence.

Review:

The beauty of this fresh, subtle comedy is that it is not just about the central relationship. Everyone gets a look in: Felix Bressart's fellow employee, the errand boy and of course Frank Morgan as the proprietor. Just like Rick's in Casablanca, in fact, except that there is thankfully no mention of the war.
