The Sweet Hereafter (1997)

£0.00

Country: CAN
Technical: col/scope 112m
Director: Atom Egoyan
Cast: Ian Holm, Maury Chaykin, Sarah Polley

Synopsis:

A school bus crashes into a frozen lake, drowning all but one child on board, a girl who in overcoming her own personal hell through the accident, provides a beacon for the town to let go and move on.

Review:

Starting more or less where the Pied Piper of Hamlyn left off, this is a fascinating psychological study, beautifully shot and finely acted by Polley and Holm, respectively as the paralysed and sexually abused survivor, and the lawyer bent on representing the bereaved townspeople for reasons of his own.
