This Gun for Hire (1942)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 81m
Director: Frank Tuttle
Cast: Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake, Robert Preston, Laird Cregar

Synopsis:

A hired assassin paid off in marked bills forms an unlikely alliance with a state witness against his erstwhile employer, who is wanted for spying.

Review:

Marvellously tough and dark in parts (it is based on a Greene novel), only to revert to conventional redemption in others, this is a crime film so freighted with proto-noir significance as to render its shortcomings forgiveable.
