Tristana (1970)

£0.00

Country: SP/IT/FR
Technical: col 99m
Director: Luis Buñuel
Cast: Catherine Deneuve, Fernando Rey, Franco Nero

Synopsis:

A beautiful orphaned girl is taken in by her aristocratic guardian, who submits her to his amorous advances.

Review:

More or less a continuation of the Viridiana story idea: sanctity versus depravity (Little Red Riding Hood, if you will). Rey again embodies the role of the debauched but frustrated aristocrat, a role Buñuel explored more sympathetically in his last film, That Obscure Object of Desire, while Deneuve is a variation on Séverine from Belle de jour. Familiar territory, then, but no less finely made for that.
