Country: US/CRO/HUN
Technical: col/2.39:1 107m
Director: Tom Gormican
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Tiffany Haddish, Sharon Horgan, Alessandra Mastronardi
Synopsis:
Nic Cage desperately wants a role that will define his career and allow him to retire, but neglect of his family over the years has finally taken its toll. With mounting debts he agrees to guest at a birthday party in Majorca, little suspecting that the subject is an arms dealer with a politician's kidnapped daughter sequestered on the grounds of his mansion.
Review:
Energetic character comedy which takes far too long to get going, then gets really silly, before turning into an action thriller with a meta finish. Cage gleefully sends up his high-octane performance style, while AI provides him with a hyped youthful alter ego who does not alway dispense sage advice. Pascal supports ably, displaying a gift for comedy, but it's all a bit too reminiscent of The Night Manager, and not in a good way.
