When Comedy Was King (1960)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 84m
Director: Robert Youngson
Cast: Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Oliver Hardy, Charley Chase, etc.

Synopsis:

Agreeable tour around the Mack Sennett and Hal Roach studios, with few silent comedians left unrepresented.

Review:

These Youngson compilations [see also The Golden Age of Comedy (1957) and Days of Thrills and Laughter (1961)] were invaluable at a time when most audiences had not seen silent films and people had forgotten some of these comedians ever existed. The only unfortunate by-product was that people then forgot there was anything but silent comedy.
